HBB80207 1/72 F-5E Tiger II fighter - Re-edition
The F-5 is a light multi-role plane which fufills the roles of fighter, fighter-bomber, trainer and recon.
The USAF and USN did not need the fighter versions but bought trainer versions and used them most famously as 'aggressor' aircraft in combat training. Many of the US' allies did buy the fighter and fighter bomber versions as it gave them cheap, relatively high performance, agile planes.
The F-5E was an improved version with uprated engines and radar fitted. This gave the plane a similar performance to the Russian MiG-21. Like the earlier F-5A, it was used by the US as a trainer and by other countries as a light weight front line fighter.
The F-5 is still in service with many countries, mostly in a training role while many others have now replaced it in the front line with newer fighters such as the F-16, Eurofighter Typhoon and Saab Gripen.
Hobby Boss are a relatively new company to us in Western Europe. They are from China and are connected with Trumpeter. Hobby Boss are known for producing well engineered kits with a good level of detail. This particular kit looks very well detailed and is probably the best F-5 currently available in 1/72.
There are markings are provided for 4 different planes - 1 from the Brazilian air force, 1 from the Swiss Air Force and a USN and USMC aggressor aircraft.
