The Hawker Sea Fury was probably the ultimate single piston engined fighter to enter service.
It was designed as a lightweight version of the Hawker Tempest but based around the Bristol Centaurus radial engine.
The RAF never adopted the plane but it was converted for aircraft carrier use and became the main fighter for the Royal Navy.
The Sea Fury proved to be very succesful and served from 1945 until the mid 50's, when the more modern jets took over.
